We are extremely fortunate to have the Gatlinburg Trolley in our beloved city. Not only is this the fifth largest mass transit system in the state of Tennessee, it is also one of the easiest ways to explore the area at a very little cost.
Now, before you buy your ticket and catch the next bus, there are a few tips for you to keep in mind before you take your next ride on the trolley system. Find out what they are below!
1. Have Exact Change
The Gatlinburg Trolley is an incredible, low-cost alternative to exploring downtown Gatlinburg and the surrounding areas. For just a couple of dollars a day, you and your family or group can experience all of the fun things to do in the area without having to worry about finding parking or filling up your gas tank.
However, we do recommend that you make sure that you have the exact amount for your ride on the Gatlinburg Trolley. Because the fairs are pretty low, drivers won’t always be able to give you change.
If you plan on visiting more than one place during your trip, you should pick up an all-day pass. For just $2, you can enjoy an unlimited number of rides on most of the trolley routes. You can extend this to up to 7 days if you plan on being in the area for awhile.

2. Pick Up A Route Map
There are over 100 Gatlinburg Trolley stops located in and around the city. From here, you can travel anywhere in the area you want to go. But, you probably want a map to help you navigate your journey.
That is why we recommend that you consider picking up a free trolley map found at each of the Gatlinburg Welcome Centers. With the map, you can easily plan out your trolley adventure!
There is also a printable Gatlinburg Trolley Guide that you can download.
3. Use the Gatlinburg Trolley Locater
Ok, so you have your route planned out and you are ready to go, but the trolley isn’t at the stop yet. Before, this was an inconvenience because you never knew exactly when the next bus would come along. Yes, it’s true that the trolleys run on time intervals, but you never know if you are closer to the departing or arriving time.
However, now all you have to do to find out how long you have to wait until the next bus arrives is to pull up the Gatlinburg Trolley Locator on your smartphone! The locator map will show you where in the city the buses currently are, which routes are in operation and where the nearest trolley stops are.
This is perfect for helping you adjust your itinerary based on the wait time.
4. Be Open to An Adventure
As we have mentioned previously, the Gatlinburg Trolley system runs throughout the city and the surrounding areas. This means it is easier than ever to plan an adventure while you are here. All you have to do is hop on the bus and hit the road.
The trick it to keep an open mind and be up for experiencing something new and exciting. It doesn’t matter if you are taking the trolley to enjoy a scenic drive along River Road or trek up to the National Park or go to Dollywood, all that matters is that you have the ability to do this.
